Entwined
Way too often, the objects around us are simplistic, creating a clear aesthetic separation between kids' and adults’ spaces. What if that taught us to stop seeing the possibilities for play in our days? This coffee table holds the space where play meets function and experimentation meets design solutions. With the goal of enhancing the traditional techniques of weaving and embroidery, I incorporated them as a crucial structural component by using the yarn's strength to apply tension and join the aluminum elements, creating a table fused with childhood imagination.
If you want to think like a child you need to play like a child. In the process of material research I was experimenting by connecting different materials in unusual ways, when I wondered if I can weave metal together - turns out I could! Made from aluminum sheets and wool yarn, the table is really light with plenty of storage (play) space, which, when filled up, makes the construction more sturdy. The legs of the table are woven together, resembling houses with rooftiles, later joined together with the tabletop by embroidering clouds on its surface.
